Silent Night pest Management Profile
Our team Shane and Peter share a passion for the Australian native flora and fauna, we believe that we can bring a mature, well balanced approach to any project that is assigned to us to reduce your pest problems
We both grew up in a small town and developed a friendship that has lasted over 30 years. We have both learnt different ways to hunt and use the land to be successful and achieve positive conservation outcomes.
Shane Jackson
I was born in a small country town in NSW and grew up trapping and hunting rabbits and foxes for commercial industries and for recreation trapping and hunting feral pigs. Our family has always involved in farming working on or managed a combination of wheat, sheep and cattle properties in the Murrumbigee River catchment I feel I have a fair understanding of the challenges and rewards farming can bring to the table.
I have been involved in pest management for 20+ years working specifically on feral animal management, and have had the privilege to conduct some specialised monitoring, research and management activities. I have worked with Federal, State and Local Governments as well as Regional Bodies on funded projects and assisted in the development of State and local Government pest management plans.
I am passionate about reducing the level of destruction feral animals can cause in the natural environment and within the farming sector which is incredible and sometimes overwhelming. With an integrated pest management approach utilising current technologies and best practice techniques I believe we can get the edge on feral animals.
Over my pest management career I have refined my soft jaw and cage trapping, 1080 baiting, shooting and den fumigation skills on foxes, feral pigs, feral cats, feral horses, deer and wild dogs and learnt valuable skills in ethology in relation to traps, feed sites and refuges. I have completed an Advanced Diploma in Conservation Land Management UQ and Regional Ecosystem Training in Qld Herbarium and a variety of training workshops on survey techniques. I have been an active member of Sporting Shooters Association Australia and held a Government firearms accreditation, undertaking Government firearms safety and proficiency courses every 2.5 years for the past 18 years.
I feel with the skills and experience both Peter and I can bring to your organisation to conduct active on ground pest management and property or landscape pest management planning will allow you to get that much needed slumber and peace of mind without bellowing, bleating, distressed animals and there can be a silent night.
Peter Fernando
Some of my fondest memories are, working in the family business as contract fencers working on large sheep and cattle stations erecting fencing some times up to 60 km’s, building old style hardwood cattle and sheep yard. Which taught me to respect the value of the farming industry has within Australia and how difficult it can be.
As an Aboriginal person we are taught to hunt and use the land at a young age and also taught to respect the land that provides you with food, water and shelter to live. I have had the fortunate privilege to witness the development of our country language dictionary by my mother an elder our people preserving an inaugural part of our culture. Being in our country with our elders learning, listening you get an appreciation of the devastation that feral animals do to culture site, traditional foods, medicines and native animals.
My working career has been within the health system for 20 years in management and community engagement. During this time I was responsible for and successfully developed a training program for Trainee Aboriginal Health Managers and also assisted in the development of the training guild lines for General Practitioners. I was appointed to the Board of Directors on three area heath districts within NSW.
I have chaired and participated in high level diplomatic forums to reach consensus on community, regional and state Aboriginal health issues, in the position of assistant director of Aboriginal Health I overseen the delivery of vital health project within Sydney. Managing smaller but no less important regional health clinics in North Western, New South Wales, I was acuity aware of my role within the greater community, upholding my beliefs and being a good role model for the younger generation within our community.
Although my employment has been in health I also hold certificates in permaculture design and short courses in vertebrae pest management and trapping techniques, I hold a current N.S.W weapons licence and am member of the SSAA.
